Getting Started

RookImg opens in your browser with nothing to install. Most tools send the selected file to our servers for processing. Open a tool from Image Tools, choose a file, set your options, press Run and download the result when it is ready.

Every tool works in Guest Mode without an account. If you sign in (optional, Google login supported), you can access your dashboard and downloads manager.

Privacy Model

When you use a tool, your file is sent to RookImg's servers and processed in memory for that single request. As soon as the result is ready, the uploaded file is deleted. Files are never stored, sold or shared.

The only tool that does not upload your image is Color Picker, which samples pixel data directly in your browser.

Your account data (display name, email and avatar from your Google account) is stored separately with our authentication provider and never mixed with your files.

Browser Support

RookImg requires a current version of Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari with JavaScript enabled. The site uses modern browser APIs such as File, Blob, ArrayBuffer and local downloads.

For the best experience, keep your browser up to date and use a stable connection. Keep the original file if you plan to experiment with several quality settings. Repeatedly editing a lossy image can discard more detail.

File size and upload limits

The combined upload budget is 4 MB. A small part of that budget is reserved for upload fields, so choose files slightly below 4 MB rather than exactly at the limit. For a batch, all images share this budget; 4 MB is not available for each image individually.

Some tools prepare oversized JPG, PNG and WEBP files in your browser by reducing dimensions and encoding a smaller WEBP copy before upload. This changes the input used for processing, so check the resulting dimensions if you need an exact-size export. Use a smaller original when you need to preserve every source pixel.

PDF, HEIC and metadata-inspection uploads cannot use this preparation step. Export a smaller file before uploading. A large pixel count can also be rejected even when the compressed file is small.

Choose a format and check the result

Use JPG for photos when the destination does not need transparency. Use PNG for transparent graphics and crisp text. WEBP is useful for web images, but check that the app receiving the image accepts it. Converting a JPG to PNG does not recover detail that has already been discarded.

Compress Image lets you choose a preset or custom quality. Its size estimate is only a guide, not a measured preview. Run the tool and inspect the downloaded result before replacing your original. PNG compression below quality 100 can reduce the number of colors, so inspect gradients and small text carefully.

For a proportional resize, leave Maintain aspect ratio enabled. For example, a 1600 by 900 image resized to 800 pixels wide becomes 800 by 450. Turning the ratio lock off applies your requested width and height even if that stretches the image.

PDF, OCR and AI output

Image to PDF accepts up to 50 images, subject to the shared upload budget. Each page follows the image dimensions; it does not add A4 or Letter margins. Check the preview and page order before sharing or printing the PDF.

Image to Text supports English, Tamil and Hindi. Use a straight, well-lit photo with readable text. OCR can confuse similar characters, punctuation and numbers. Compare the extracted text with the original before using it for forms or records.

AI Upscale first reduces inputs whose longest edge exceeds 768 pixels to keep processing manageable. The selected scale applies to that prepared image. A large original may therefore produce an output smaller than expected; read the dimensions shown by the tool. AI can invent texture and cannot prove what missing detail originally looked like.

Troubleshooting

If a file fails to upload, check that it is a supported format for the selected tool and that it opens on your device. Renaming a file extension does not convert the file. For a too-large error, use a smaller original or split the batch.

For a timeout, try a smaller image or lower scale setting. For a network error, restore your connection and run the tool again. Your browser must remain open until the result arrives.

If a download does not start, check your browser's download permissions and try again. Downloads are generated locally in your browser after processing completes.
